RECONCILIATION, (PENANCE, FIRST CONFESSION)
5-week course for children (typically grades 2-5) and their parents. Diocesan policy requires children's participation in a faith formation program at least one year prior to beginning Reconciliation classes. Contact Jennifer Lehrman, 719-599-5031 x110, for more information.
These classes are separate from the regular Faith Formation classes. Preparation for Reconciliation takes place in the Fall. Reconciliation classes are held on Sundays from 3:30 p.m. until 4:45 p.m.
NOTE: At least one parent/guardian is required to attend sessions with their child/ren.
A Child is eligible to make the sacrament of Reconciliation if:
- He/she is a baptized Catholic or has made a Profession of Faith
- A parent makes the commitment to help prepare the child (teaching the required prayers and helping with any assigned homework)
- The child has successfully completed a Diocesan approved Faith Formation Program AT LEAST the previous year before the year of sacramental preparation
- The child is in second grade or above
- The child has successfully met the minimum attendance requirements in the regular Faith Formation class or is in the process of completing the Home Study Program
- The child can distinguish right from wrong
